Will festive TV inspire your holiday?

Popular festive period TV broadcasts, like the musical films Mamma Mia and The Sound of Music, are set to influence people's holiday choices in the run up to January, which is a key period for bookings, the ABTA has predicted.

The travel industry has experienced a hike in British consumers' interest in places that strongly feature in popular movies and television shows over recent years, it explains.

"It’s not just travel shows that inspire people’s holiday choices, any TV programme or film that showcases a destination strongly can be incredibly influential," the ABTA's Victoria Bacon has said.

"Christmas represents a time when friends and family come together to share ideas and inspiration, often ahead of booking their holiday in January, so that makes television and film particularly influential during this time."

Mamma Mia shows off Greek islands, while the Austrian Alps and Salzburg feature in The Sound of Music, the organisation notes. Other broadcasts it thinks could provide holiday inspiration include Bear's Wild Weekend and The Godfather.

Whatever prompts their choice of where to head away, travel personal insurance is an important consideration for holidaymakers.
