Patrick McLoughlin, transport secretary, has announced a variety of measures that could help car personal insurance holders and other road users.

These include Local Pinch Point Fund cash for 25 local road projects to deal with congestion. Places like Birmingham and Leeds are set to benefit.

That's on top of 87 projects that have previously been announced during 2013.

A lot of these 25 new projects are forecast for delivery either next year or the year after.

Mr McLoughlin also confirmed close to £111 million for a  M6-Heysham link road and funding for other road improvement projects.

Several rail improvement measures were also announced by the Department for Transport at the same time.

"By investing in our local and regional transport infrastructure we can help support new jobs and boost our overall competitiveness in the global economic race," commented Mr McLoughlin.
